The Lust List.

I'm supposed to be revising, but for some reason Lenin keeps telling me to go and look at clothes online.
These are the things I'm after. I'm seriously in need of some velvet items in my wardrobe, as everywhere I turn somebody is wearing it and it looks great. I'm also desperate for a leather jacket, but I can't find one anywhere that I like for a good price!

This jacket's by Paul and Joe. Maybe one day...

Also, I'm having a few issues with the design of the blog. Only some browsers can see the intended text/font etc... I'm trying to sort it out, so bear with...

As I fancy myself as the next Sacha Mascolo-Tarbuck, my friends sometimes let me excitably attack their hair with bleach and other substances to 'jazz it up'. I recently did 2 friends' hair for the school Christmas Ball, so I thought I'd share the result and process for those who are interested, or want to try it themselves!

The first brave friend was Dominique, who wanted a bright orange dip dye. Dip dyeing hair is pretty self explanatory, but for those who aren't familiar with the technique, the ends of the hair are bleached and then further colour is put over the bleached hair if desired.
For Dominique's hair, we used a blue power bleach with 20vol developer for about 40 minutes:

Over this we put Directions dye in 'Apricot':

It came out like this:

The second brave friend was Ruth. Her hair was more tricky, as she wanted a single electric blue streak to match her shoes. The problem with this was that, as her hair is so dark, we had to bleach it three times to lift the colour enough for the toner. This isn't recommended; the third time we were worried about melting her hair (we didn't!).  The first 2 times were with a blue power bleach and 30vol developer for 40 minutes, and the third time was with 20vol developer.
After three bleaches and toner her hair was like this:

We then applied Directions dye in 'Atlantic Blue', and this was the result:

A word of warning regarding blue hair colours: dark hair will go orangey when bleached. Blue dye over orange hair will come out green. So, if you don't want green hair, use a toner!

Apologies if this post has been mind-numbingly boring- I'm far too obsessed with hair.

Beauty and the Beast

A little while ago I did a photoshoot for the 'Young Fashion Photographer of the Year' competition, run by Clothes Show Live. I didn't get anywhere in the competition (I didn't expect to), but I've been meaning to post some of the photos I took.
The brief told all entrants to take inspiration from an 'iconic' fashion image, and to put our own spin on it. I chose the photograph 'Barbara, Over Gadgeted, Does Lips' by William Klein, and my 'spin' was the ever relevant issue of the use of fur in fashion. Shown now, the image provokes a strong reaction concerning this issue, but back when originally shot (around 1950), the use of fur in fashion was much less controversial.

The original image

The final photo (all others are supporting images):

My model was a fellow 6th form pupil at my school, and the whole thing was made much more exciting by the fact that we had an hour to shoot the whole thing, as the model had a piano lesson to go to.

I wore this to my school's Christmas Ball last night. It was fun; the highlight of the night being the collapse of a 300 year old table in the medieval buildings of my school, right onto my foot.

I'm Dip Dyeing a friend's hair orange this week, I'll do a post about it when it's done!

I've finally dyed my hair back to its natural (ish) colour. I already miss my silver hair, but It'll help hide the roots whilst it grows out!

I promise a picture soon.

First off, huge apologies for the 2 week absence. I was away, and then had a very busy week, work wise...

I met her in Madrid last week. I just loved how well she pulled off the collar, and although she spoke very little English she was happy to pose for a photo.

Today I thought I'd do a post about my skincare, what I use, love and covet. I love blog posts like this, mainly because of my unhealthy obsession with beauty and skincare, but also because I'm nosy and like to find things out about peoples' lives.

Unfortunately I've never been blessed with good skin, so all the products I use are aimed at oily, spot prone skin.

I'm a massive Clinique fan, and religiously use their '3 step skincare' programme; cleanse, clarify and moisturise.

(Battered bottles I know, but this just highlights how much i love them...)

Every night I also diligently apply my various anti-acne lotions and potions in the hope that I will wake up with the glowing complexion of an Arabian princess. Alas, this has yet to occur.
These 2 products certainly help me on my way though;
Retin A gel 0.025% (prescription only)
Sudocrem Healing cream.
In my opinion, the latter is somewhat of a miracle, yet seems relatively unheard of.

I also like to use a weekly mask to keep my skin free of lurking nasties. A few i love are;
Clarins Pure and Radiant Mask with Pink Clay
Bodyshop Ionic Seaweek Mask
Bodyshop Tea Tree Mask

Even with the above battle plan, my skin still seems able to overcome my attempts to quell its unruliness.
In times like this I rely on a good concealer.
I love;
Bodyshop tea Tree Concealer
No7 Instant Radiance Concealer

I also often use a mascara, as I find it works wonders at opening up tired eyes.
I've loved many, but my favourites are by Clinique and Urban Decay.

There's something about band t-shirts. They just make you feel that little bit cooler. I understand this may sound pretentious, but I don't actually own this top.
 I stole it from my brother.

I don't usually wear much blue. I never know if it suits me or not. I'd dressed in a hurry however, and didn't notice how blue I looked until I was out of the house... I actually quite like it, and will strive to be more blue in future.

Even though it's October I'm still clinging onto my shorts. I won't be beaten yet, though I say this at the end of a mini-heatwave.

I think I look a bit like a prisoner in this cardigan.

Flesh and Blood

 This song is fabulous at getting one up and about in the morning... I find that a good, upbeat tune is better than coffee. Seriously.

Also, I'm thinking of changing my hair... I'd be doing an ombre-ish thing, with my natural colour (dark blonde) on most of my hair, then bleached ends. Although I love my silver hair (which i really, really do), it's got to the point where I can't handle the damage any more. Breakage from bleaching becomes such a pain in the ass.

American Boy

These socks are less 'in your face' than most of the 'stars and stripes' garments knocking around at the moment.

Sorry about the 'busy' photograph; it was taken in a friends kitchen.

I've been pretty tied down what with going back to school recently, so haven't been posting as much as I'd like. I'm starting to plan my posts more, so hopefully posts should be appearing more regularly and frequently!

This was just what I was wearing at home last night. I figured it was better than nothing!

Bargain outfit too.

The lovely looking scab you can see on my foot is a legacy of that bonding weekend. Still not completely over that... If any of you are planning to go to such a thing (why?) here are a few things that I learnt;

- Elizabeth Arden 8 Hour Cream really is incredible. Cuts, grazes and cracked lips, you name it, it solves it.

- A second towel wouldn't go amiss.

- Take at least 10 pairs of socks/pants.
